A reminder to all bus parents and students…

If you have children who ride the bus, and they are involved in afterschool activities or for any other reason will not be riding the bus after school, please remember that the school office needs to be informed the child will not be riding the bus.  When we are informed, we can send a note out to the bus driver so he/she is made aware they need not wait for them that day.  There have been several days where a bus loaded with children is waiting at the school for ten extra minutes because a child is staying for a sports practice and their parent did not let the school Main Office know.

It is Hertz’s policy (our school bus provider) to require that a student must be excused by a parent/guardian, to avoid confusion and students being left behind in error.  Children simply telling us they are not on the bus after school will be placed on the bus following school bus policy.

Winter Advisory for SCS Parents

Now that winter has arrived, complete with snow and cold, there a couple of significant things for all families at SCS to remember:

  1. Unless announced by Saskatoon Public School Division, SCS will always be open – we serve as a “shelter in place”.
  2. Please have a winter plan for your family.  We do the best we can to open up the school parking lot and sidewalks, but if a significant snowfall occurs making road travel difficult, families have to make a decision about travelling to school that makes ‘safety-sense’.  If you feel it is unsafe to drive to get your children to school, please do not attempt to do so.
  3. For those using the four Hertz school buses please check again for the Winter Bus Guidelines webpage.  This will tell you the school buses will not run if the announced temperature (including the windchill) at 6:31 AM on CKOM 650 is -45 C or colder; if they do not run in the morning the route is considered to be cancelled for the complete day, and no afternoon route will occur.
  4. You would also be well advised to have a “Plan B” for your children in the event you are not able to get to the school to pick them up – that is, an alternative home to go to for the night.
  5. If a storm is significant enough, students are able to stay at the school until it is safe to travel to their homes.
