Thank you for your interest in Saskatoon Christian School. While the application process for new families may appear lengthy, please feel free to contact the school office if you encounter any difficulty with its completion. SCS is committed to providing a Biblical foundation for life that encourages each student to actively choose to follow Christian principles in every experience of their life. Admission to SCS is determined on the basis of a personal interview with parent(s)/guardian(s), student(s), character (Church and Character) references, grades and, possibly, academic/readiness testing. Students who seek admission directly following an expulsion, suspension or behavioral issues at another school will not be eligible for admission until they have demonstrated success at another school. The purposes of these standards are to allow students and their families to understand our commitment to Christ-centered education and to focus their commitment toward choosing obedience to Christ in all aspects of life.
Step One: Application
A. New Application for Admissions forms. All applications for admission will be considered from parents/guardians who:
1. Include at least one parent/guardian who is personally committed to Christ.
To activate your application file, the school office must receive each item identified as Section 1 on the "Application for Admission Checklist". Please note that the Kindergarten application package has a different Admission Checklist.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is the parents/guardians responsibility to follow up on the Church Reference and Character Reference forms. These forms can be faxed to the school to accelerate the process. Please submit the remainder of the admission package while waiting for reference forms to be submitted. Interviews will be scheduled once we receive all the required forms and materials.
1. Thoroughly read and complete all forms in the admission packet. Return the completed packet to the Office with a non-refundable $250.00 Registration Fee. Packets can be mailed or delivered to the SCS Office. Please do not fax.
-
Please note, only the pages marked FILL OUT AND RETURN need to be turned in as your admission packet. Pages marked READ AND KEEP are to be kept for your personal records.
-
Our school is limited in our ability to meet the needs of students with severe learning disabilities, either psychological or physical.
-
To plan for each year, SCS must know in advance every potential or probable use of our Resource Personnel. Failure to accurately inform SCS about these needs now may lead to the discontinuation of the school’s ability to meet the applicant’s needs in the future, and the necessary removal of the applicant from SCS.
Parents must subscribe to the SCS Statement of Faith and desire to partner with us in developing their child(ren) spiritually and academically. SCS admission is limited to parents and students who demonstrate the following:
1. That there is a profession of faith in Jesus Christ on the part of at least one custodial parent and the grade 5 – 12 student (John 3:3, I Peter 1:23).
2. That there be membership in, and regular attendance at, a church in which the Bible is sincerely believed and sincerely taught; this church will agree with the SCS Statement of Faith. Because we work closely with Christian churches and mutually promote their work, it is imperative students at SCS come from Bible-believing churches – this gives reason to an admission process, which takes some time and involves an interview.
3. That there be an understanding of and agreement with, the purpose of SCS to provide children with a Christ-centered education in which Jesus Christ is acknowledged in every area; where the basis for instruction is the Bible, the Word of God.
4. That there is a commitment on the part of the parents to support the work of SCS through prayer, volunteer labour and financial contributions.
5. That each applicant provide evidence of emotional stability, a satisfactory behaviour record and sound social adjustment; for students grade 5 – 12, an expression of a desire to attend SCS. SCS does not, at this time, have the resources to adequately provide proper education regarding certain special needs students.
6. The student is not under suspension/expulsion from another school; if so, evidence of satisfactory behaviour must be demonstrated for at least one semester prior to application to SCS.
7. SCS reserves the right to select students on the basis of academic performance, spiritual commitment, lifestyle choices and personal suitability including a willingness to cooperate with SCS administration and to abide by its policies. (Romans 2:11)
8. Parents must have read, agree with and signed the Statement of Faith and Parental Commitment.
The Principal or his designate will be responsible to carry out the admissions policies established by the SCS Board. Decision of the Principal will be considered binding, except when an exception to the policy is sought or parents may appeal decisions to the SCS Board, or its delegate, by written request.
Step Two: Consideration for Admission
The next step in the Admission Process is the Administration/Parent interview.
Step Three: Notification
New applicants will be accepted on the basis of a complete review of the academic information, the personal interview and reference forms. A confirmation letter will be sent to all applicants within one week of the interview to notify you if your child has been accepted. Successful applicants beyond the number we are able to accept will be placed in a waiting pool.
Note: All SCS Admissions decisions made by the SSCE Board are conclusive and not subject to an appeal process.
