Discipline Policy
Any informational material regarding our school would be incomplete without a statement of how Saskatoon Christian School views both children themselves and the role of the school in educating them.

Believing in the concept of original sin as laid out in the Bible, as Christians we maintain it is the human condition to be prone towards selfishness. Automatic obedience to God’s will is not a state normally experienced by children of any age. Obedience is something that must be learned over a period of time through consistent yet compassionate guidance.

First and foremost, discipline must be grounded in love. Godly correction does not destroy self-respect but encourages it. As children gain self-control and learn to walk in obedience to the Lord, they grow in the peace that comes with righteousness.

Love is not permissive. School staff will handle situations occurring during school hours. Should further action be necessary parents/guardians will be called to cooperate in the process. Since children are primarily the responsibility of the family, it only makes sense to involve them in any policy put into place by the school.
  • Senior students are looked upon as role models for the younger children. As such they are expected to set the tone for modeling a positive attitude within the student body. All students planning to enroll in SCS for the first time in grades 6 – 12 are required to state in writing their acceptance of the standard student rules used in the normal operation of this school. Parents are encouraged to work with their children in preparing their statements of commitment. Since ultimately any commitment we make as Christians is based on a commitment to Christ Himself, students ought to honestly assess their personal faith commitments. We trust this will be a meaningful activity for both students and their parents/guardians.
  • Students may be accepted for admission for a probationary period. In such cases a definite decision regarding regular status will be made by a date agreed upon by parents/guardians and school authorities.
  • Students whose conduct is constantly in conflict with the character of the school may be subject to dismissal. Such serious action will not take place without it first coming before the Board.
  • Staff members of Saskatoon Christian School do not engage in corporal punishment at any time.
As committed Christians, we aim for harmony within our school family. We realize that situations and disagreements are apt to arise from time to time. Please note that the normal channel of communications regarding areas of concern is to first consult the child’s teacher. Generally, any problems can be sorted out easily when handled in this manner. If this should prove insufficient the next step would be to notify the principal, and finally, if necessary, the Board of Directors (see Matt. 18).
